zNET Dialup Account Information
Account Plans:

zNET offers PPP dialup accounts (no shell access). Our STANDARD on-demand dial-up plan has a monthly flat rate with no prime time or hidden charges and includes a 10MB WWW and e-mail directory for each of the 5 included email boxes that come with the service. The subscriber is expected to hang up after each session but there is no fixed monthly time limit. There is the possibility of a modem reset after 4 hours of continued use but a user is permitted to redial into the network.

Activation:

Accounts with approved applications or information will be activated the same day if received prior to 4 PM, PST. If you get a n"invalid login" message when attempted to log in to zNET, its means your account is not activated yet. Please make other attempts later. Accounts submitted before 4 PM may not be activated til early evening.

PPP:

PPP, short for Point-to-Point Protocol, is the Internet standard for transmitting Internet Protocol (IP) packets over phone or serial lines. Internet information is packaged into IP packets, a method for enclosing data into small, transmittable units (wrapped up on one end, unbundled on the other).

Software:

zNET dialup access requires no special software aside from the internet connection software that will come with any modern operating system (Dialup networking for Windows, PPP/Remote Access in MacOS, pppd/chat under Linux/Unix). We have "Quickstart" set up guides for various versions of Windows, Mac OS, and for Linux online. Our Technical Support department can also walk you through set-up via phone or email.

Server assigned IP addressing:

Also called dynamically allocated IP. When you connect to zNET's we identify your computer by providing you with an IP address (a number like 206.43.109.81). Using server assigned addressing, your computer is dynamically allocated a temporary IP address just for your immediate session. With a Specified IP, your computer is allocated a one-time permanent IP address (when your account is set up) for use in all your sessions. A Specified IP is also called an "assigned" or "static" IP.

Domain Name Service:

A custom domain name can be used for a unique Internet presence, i.e. your e-mail address could be username@yourcompany.com. InterNIC maintains the registry of unique custom domain names on the Internet. You can search their WHOIS database for available domain names by going to their website at http://www.networksolutions.com or zNET can make the search for you. Processing by InterNIC can vary from 3 days to 3 weeks. InterNIC will bill you direct for their $35/year registration fee. When applying we will need the following information:

A first and second choice for your domain name
A brief description of your organization
The name of your organization or individual registering domain
Individual/organization address
A contact person and contact information

Domain names are lower case, alphabetical characters only. Top level domains: .COM for businesses; .ORG for individuals or nonprofit organizations. This information will be publicly available via InterNIC WHOIS database.

Although zNET will make a check with InterNIC regarding a requested domain name we can not guarantee that the name will be approved. In rare cases between the time the name is submitted another application may be in process for the same name. We charge $25 for future domain name charges or the submission of subsequent choices if a domain is rejected.

Net Traffic:

Number of bytes transferred per month

Example: One HTML file that is 100K in length with no graphics or other files associated with it can be viewed by other web browsers (transferred) 1,000 times in one month before any net traffic charges will be incurred.

Net traffic is billed monthly at a rate of $4 per 100MB of traffic.

Net Traffic (in MB) Cost

up to 100 MB $0
up to 200 MB $4
up to 300 MB $8
etc...

Payment Options:

zNET will bill your credit card or checking account the day your application is processed. The initial charge will include applicable setup fees, and setup kits, if any. Subsequently, billing will be processed automatically via electronic fund transfers 5 days in advanceof your anniversary date (the date on which your account was established. (In the case that that day falls on a weekend or holiday, billing will be processed the following business day). Annual invoicing also available.

Upgrading existing accounts:

Current zNET customers can convert existing accounts to a STANDARD plan for no charge. The election to add new features to your account will be subject to normal fees.

Technical Support:

zNET offers 800 voice and e-mail support for initial configuration. E-mail is monitored continuously and phone calls are returned within 24 hours. Configuration is limited to one computer and one user per account. Focus is on connectivity to our system and e-mail. zNET tech support does not provide general internet software help or computer advice.
